Description:
Round ring with chipped edges and smooth interior to hold woven hair. Square gold bezel with "MB" (for Mary Brainard) stamped on it and space to tie hair underneath.
The label with the ring indicates that the ring was once owned by Clarrisa Perkins who died in 1837, and the hair in the ring was that of Mary Brainard of East Haddam, Connecticut. Clarissa Perkins was a friends of Lucretia Champion Bacon. Mrs. Bacon received the ring after Clarissa's death.
