Watercolor on paper of the Litchfield Female Academy building attributed to Emily Hart. The view of the academy is head on from the east, showing a gable and front with two pilasters on each side of the door, fan light and cupola with an iron cross on top.
Emily Hart was a music teacher at the Litchfield Female Academy. She is listed as an instructor in the 1830 Litchfield Female Academy catalog. The original watercolor Ms. Hart completed is in the collections of Old Sturbridge Village. This watercolor is thought to be a second copy of the watercolor completed by Emily Hart. Emily Noyes Vanderpoel created a copy of this watercolor in 1898 which is in the collection of the Litchfield Historical Society.
