The Holcomb Collection is a varied accumulation of documents from the Wilmington and New Castle areas spanning nearly three centuries from the late 1600s to 1970. Most of the collection consists of deeds and correspondence from the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth. The individuals and families represented include both the famous and the obscure, while the number of documents associated with each ranges from one or two more than fifty.

The Read family is represented through several generations by a variety of documents. Along with letters and deeds, the collection includes thirty small legal documents signed by George Read (1733-1798). Mrs. George Read's recipe book from 1813, another Read family cookbook from ...
