Biographical Notes:
Seth Bird was born in 1732 in Bethlem, CT. He became a physician and resided in the South Farms section of Litchfield, now the town of Morris, CT. He was a fellow of the Connecticut Medical Society which granted him an honorary degree in 1793. Bird trained other doctors during his career, including Litchfield's Dr. Daniel Sheldon.
During the Revolutionary War, Bird served as a member of Litchfield's Committee of Inspection and was appointed with Dr. Reuben Smith to certify surgeons and surgeons' mates for service in the Continental Army. He also served the town in various capacities including selectman, assessor, and grand juror. Bird died in 1805.
Bird married twice, first to Sarah Marsh in 1757. She died in 1766. His second wife, Hannah Sheldon Bird, died in 1803. Dr. Bird and Hannah had one child, John Bird.
