Biographical Notes:
William Rysam Sleight was the husband of Litchfield Female Academy student Anna Dering. Born June 9, 1802, William lived his life in his hometown of Sag Harbor, New York. On January 2, 1833 he wed Anna Dering Sleight. The couple had ten children during their marriage. From 1821 until 1850 William was in business with the whaling firm of Mulford and Sleight. During those years the firm sent eleven ships on sixty-eight voyages, and proved to be very successful.
