Biographical Notes:
Phebe Henderson Linsley, daughter of Thomas Henderson and his wife, was born in 1784 in Bennington, Vermont. In 1801 Phebe served an assistant teacher at the Litchfield Female Academy, and was later the Principal of Middlebury Academy in Vermont. On April 23, 1813 she marred Henry Smith, a lawyer from Bennington. After Henry's death she married Joel H. Linsley of Cornwall, Vermont in 1821. Phebe had three children with each husband. She passed away in 1858.
