Biographical Notes:
Esther Edwards was the daughter of the famous Great Awakening preacher Jonathan Edwards. She married Rev. Aaron Burr Sr. in 1752; together the couple had two children. She was a devout member of the Puritan Evangelical Church and is known for the extensive letter journal she kept. When she died of smallpox in 1758 at the age of 26 less than a year after her husband, she left her two young children orphaned. Her father went on to replace her husband as the third President of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton).
