Biographical Notes:
Elias Cowles, son of James and Abigail Hooker Cowles of Farmington, Connecticut, was born October 11, 1765. During his life Elias worked as a merchant in several locations. He was marriage to Lydia Adams Cowles, the daughter of lawyer and politician Andrew Adams of Litchfield, Connecticut. During their marriage Elias and Lydia had five children. Elias passed away in Rhinebeck, New York on November 27, 1797.
