Biographical Notes:
   George Frederick Houghton was born on May 31, 1820. He studied law at the University of Vermont. He had a successful career and became the Vermont State attorney and the secretary of military and civil affairs. He is the founder of the Vermont Transcript, a popular local newspaper in Saint Albans, Vermont. With his love of history, he was one of the leading founders of the Vermont Historical Society and served as President in 1870.
