Biographical Notes:
Matilda Mary Cooke was born on December 1, 1841. Matilda met John Maltby while he was working on the trans-Atlantic Cable. At twenty-one years age, Matilda married John Maltby on January 7, 1863. They were separated for two years but united in 1866.
Together, they moved to Sutton Massachusetts, but left him in 1868. Matilda later connected with John Maltby on one of his business trips and they remained in Sutton together until 1877. They later moved to Fairfield for another of John's business adventures.
After John died in 1895, Matilda return to Sutton and taught French, music and became a librarian at the Sutton Library.
Together, they moved to Sutton Massachusetts, but left him in 1868. Matilda later connected with John Maltby on one of his business trips and they remained in Sutton together until 1877. They later moved to Fairfield for another of John's business adventures.
After John died in 1895, Matilda return to Sutton and taught French, music and became a librarian at the Sutton Library.
