Benjamin Gage Berry (June 1854)

Adeline Wheeler Berry was born in April of 1834 to LFA student, Hannah Avery and Giles Wheeler. She married a telegraph named Benjamin Gage Berry in 1854 and moved to Norwich, New York.

"One of the best known of our older residents passed away Monday night when Mrs. Ada W. Berry, widow of B. Gage Berry answered the final summons. She was in her 78th year. Funeral services will be held from the late home, 307 North Broad street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Paul Allen of the Congregational church officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope.

Although a native of North Stoning, Ct., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Giles Wheeler, Mrs. Berry had resided in Chenango county so long that she was to all intents and purposes a native of the place. She was married at her Connecticut home in June, 1854, and was brought by her husband, B. Gage Berry, to this village at that time. They made their home in the house on North Broad street and resided there during their entire ...married there during their entire married life and since the death of the husband, Mrs. Berry continued to live in the old homestead.

Two children were borne to Mr. and Mrs. Berry, one a daughter dying in infancy and a son, Charles A. Berry, who resides in Syracuse. A sister, Miss Eunice Wheeler, also survives, and one grandson, Ansel P. Berry. Mr. Berry is well remembered by a large proportion of the inhabitants of Chenango County as the Chenango Telegraph, and after his death, the paper was run by Charles Berry for some time. In all, the history of the Telegraph is closely associated with that of the Berry family for some 35 years. Mrs. Berry was a life-long member of the Congregational church."
