Biographical Notes:
Robert Montgomery migrated to Trumbull County Ohio in 1806. He learned the trade of surveying from his father, who had served in the Revolutionary Army and as a member of the Continental Congress. Robert Montgomery established the first iron works in Trumbull County and moved to Coitsville in 1816. His first wife died leaving one child. He then married Louisa Morris Edwards. The couple had three children together.
