Biographical Notes:
Eliza Powell Jones, a native of London, England, was born on May 24, 1759. On January 8, 1781 she married John Rice Jones in Brecon, Wales, and the couple had four children during the course of their marriage. In 1784 the Jones family sailed to the United States and settled in Philadelphia. Two years later they moved west to the city of Louisville, and later to Vincennes (in the present day state of Indiana) during her husband's military service. It was there that on March 11, 1787 Eliza passed away.
