Andrew Hosford Smith was born in Berlin, Connecticut on May 30, 1812. His parents were Walter Dean and Hetty Bull Hosford Smith. Andrew spent the early years of his boyhood on a farm, and, when ten years of age, went to Hartford, Connecticut with his parents, and was there educated in the public schools.
