Biographical Notes:
Eliza Tyler was born in South Britain, Connecticut to Bennett Tyler and Esther Stone Tyler. Her father was a prominent minister who served as president of Dartmouth College from 1822-1828. Eliza and Calvin married during his first year studying at Dartmouth. She died in Ohio where Stowe had accepted a teaching position at Lyman Beecher's Lane Theological Seminary.
