Biographical Notes:
Tryphosa Dunbar was the daughter of Isaiah Butler and Rebecca Foote. She was born on May 15, 1759 in Waterbury, CT. Tryphosa likely met Miles Dunbar, Sr. through church, as both were members of the Northbury Society, now known as the Pilgrim Congregational Church. She joined the Society in April 1776. On May 3, 1779, Tryphosa married Miles Dunbar, Sr. in while he was on furlough. The couple had eight children: Isaiah, John, Miles, Jr., Clarissa, Butler, Lucretia, Zenas, and Calvin. All of them were raised in Plymouth. In 1809, Tryphosa and Miles, Sr. moved west to the area of Syracuse, New York; by 1819, they had settled in Volney, Oswego County, New York as members of the First Congregational Church of Volney alongside Miles, Jr.'s brother Zenas and his wife Lydia Dunbar. She died roughly sometime between the months of March and June 1846 in Volney.
